We promote collaborative efforts to build a safe, affordable, accessible & connected community for aging adults in Durham. Our vision is that Durham is a community where all adults age well.
Since 2019, Durham has been a member of the AARP Age-Friendly Network of States and Communities. Each age-friendly community is unique and they share common features. Age-friendly communities:
- Have collaborative partners who share a vision of all adults aging safely and with dignity.
- Include all aging adults in community decision-making, spaces, places and activities.
- Have an action plan that focuses on improving community conditions.
The Comprehensive Aging Plan is our blueprint for making Durham a more age-friendly and livable community. Aging Well Durham is our community’s backbone agency for the Durham Comprehensive Aging Plan.
