The Durham Community Safety Department activates the “white flag” when the weather is:
- 32 degrees of below or
- 35 degrees of below with participation.
Regardless of White Flag status, please refer any Durham community members seeking shelter to Entry Point Durham at 984-287-8313 for resource and shelter availability.
IMPORTANT: HEART teams encourage neighbors and hospitals to use public transportation when available. Very limited transportation will be available this weekend (if it is safe to transport neighbors and buses are not running.) Survival kits are available to anyone unable to access shelter.

Communities in Partnership has a warming station from 10am-5pm when the weather forecast is expected to not be higher than 38 degrees by 10am. The station’s location is at 101 North Driver Street. Please call 919-278-7329 for additional information.

Tuesday, March 17th Aging Well Durham and the Durham County Library are hosting our 2nd technology drop-ins from 2-3:30pm at our office – 1209 North Elizabeth Street. If you have questions about using electronic devices and apps or connecting to online resources – stop-by to receive one on one support!

GoDurham Connect is a new resource for getting us around town! It is a flexible ride service that takes us where we need to go within the North or East Durham Zones. You can request a same-day ride in a sedan, minivan or 12-passenger van. Saturday, February 21st: 6-7pm at the Museum of Durham History – This month the Museum is hosting a FREE presentation An Overview of Durham History, from 6:00 to 7:00pm. Whether you’re new to Durham or looking to learn more about your home city, come enjoy a fun evening of learning and community at the Museum of Durham History!

Everyone Eats. Durham Campaign – In Durham County, thousands of families are struggling to put food on the table. Everyone Eats. Durham is a local campaign to raise funds for our neighborhood food pantries working tirelessly to ensure no one goes hungry. Lincoln Community Health Center and the Community Health Coalition are holding a breast cancer support group every 2nd Monday of each month from 6-7pm in Conference Room A at Lincoln’s Main Clinic location (1301 Fayetteville Street). If you have questions, please call 919-956-4000.


Thursday, February 19th: 7pm at St. Mark AME Zion Church (531 South Roxboro Street). You are invited to an interfaith candlelight vigil and prayer service for peace, nonviolent resistance and justice.

Sunday, February 22nd: 3pm – New Creation UMC Music Ministry is hosting “A Celebration of Black American Music.” This event is free and open to the public. The church’s address is 4705 Old Chapel Hill Road.

Friday, February 27th – The 47th Annual Minority Health Conference. Dr. Reed V. Tuckson, MD, FACP is this year’s William T. Small Jr. Keynote Speaker for the 47th Annual Minority Health Conference.
Dr. Tuckson is the Managing Director of Tuckson Health Connections and Founder of the Black Coalition Against COVID-19. A nationally respected physician leader, he served as Executive Vice President and Chief of Medical Affairs at UnitedHealth Group, President of the American Telemedicine Association, Senior Vice President for Professional Standards at the American Medical Association, Commissioner of Public Health for Washington, DC, and President of Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science.

Saturday, February 28th: 2-4pm – Join author Angela Harris for her book signing at Barnes and Noble located at the Triangle Town Center (5959 Triangle Town Blvd. Unit 2107 – Raleigh). Angela Harris is the founder of TGX development. She is a huge advocate for merging technology and creative training solutions to help people and organizations flourish in a constantly evolving digital economy.

Saturday, April 11th: 8am-5pm Women’s Health Awareness Conference 2026 “Transforming Communities by Enhancing Women’s Health” at Hillside High School (3727 Fayetteville Road).
