“Getting to know Sam has been a pleasure. He has a unique creative flair and loves to laugh (at my terrible jokes). It’s the perfect combo!” Chelsea Hawkins

To get to know him a little more, AWD asked Sam some questions. Here are his answers:
Where are you from, and did your hometown/upbringing influence your work choices? I grew up outside Washington D.C. with politically-minded parents, so yes, that inflluenced me quite a bit. I went to my first–the first–“Gay Rights” March there at age 18!
Where have you worked and what’s your main interest? I’ve worked for LGB+ and especially transgender equity, sexual health for all ages, domestic violence/sexual assault prevention. Currently I’m focused on aging well! Obviously that’s my job, but I’m also a 64 year old transman trying to age safely and healthily.
What’s your go-to comfort thing? Food, activity? Electric guitar, walking, which I do every morning, camping in the glorious mountains of North Carolina. Coffee toffee ice-cream! Coffee is an underrated flavor.
